A few years back, a young boy from Pierre had a dream. Jeff Jacobs had grown up farming with his family around Pierre but he longed for something more. After graduating from college and failing to find gainful employment, he set out to make a go of it on his own. He moved to Phoenix, Arizona where he began to develop and market his own line of gourmet sauces and specialty foods under the name Southwest Specialty Food. His first successful product was the Ass Kickin' line of hot sauces, and he's never looked back.

Southwest Specialty Food now produces over 180 different products ranging from Candy Ass Salsa to Spontaneous Combustion Peanuts. But at the core of everything he makes is the Ass Kickin' spirit of the original. That same spirit of success is found throughout the Ass Kickin' ranch.

In 2002, Jeff purchased the 1,000 acre Bowen Ranch next to the family farm outside of Pierre and he and his father, Jerome, began renovating the old homestead old homestead into the world class facility it is today. The main part of the lodge was once the house of Kevin Costner during the filming of "Dances With Wolves". After suffering from a fire, it was purchased by Jeff's father and moved to its current site overlooking the Missouri River. After repair work was completed on the old house, it served as the main facility on the Ranch until final renovations were completed to the Lodge in 2005.

The River View Lodge now boasts over 12,000 square feet of luxury and includes 2 wet bars, 2 saunas, formal living and dining rooms, multiple pool tables, large screen HD TV's, sleeping accomodations for 30 and some of the most spectacular views you'll ever see of the Missouri River. Along with its magnificent hunting and fishing, the Ass Kickin' Ranch still remains a working farm, raising wheat, corn and milo each year. It even features a vineyard that suplies grapes for the Ass Kickin' wine.
